How to set the certificate of the site

$

I experienced a server malfunction, I reconstructed the environment. Mattermost is also similar. I am planning to build it in the same condition as before. However, I also encountered a certificate problem this time.

When I access Mattermost, Mattermost seems to be requesting a certificate of the original domain.

My mattermost is ’ mattermost.example.com’, and access it.
mattermost is not a certificate of “mattermost.example.com” but it requires a certificate of “example.com”.

Errors by web browser.

[CHROME] NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
[FIREFOX] SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN

I abandon the use of example.com and I assign example.com a certificate of mattermost.example.com to example.com. Then I will be able to access Mattermost.
And I can not log in. The error is as follows.

Invalid or expired session, please login again.

Even if I set a wild card certificate of * .example.com.

When I installed Mattermost for the first time, there was no such thing. At that time it was whether the certificate could be used or not. I am restoring Mattermost (including config.json) from the backup file. I am not using backup data in the environment reconstruction of the server.

How do I inherit the certificate of it when I access mattermost.example.com?
The setting in nginx.conf is the contents in Mattermost’s manual. The certificate uses Let’s Encrypt (external).

Hi there!

What’s the rationale behind not being able to share/forward a message from a public-channel “miles-davis” to another public-channel “lee-morgan”?

Cheers!

Can't close refused connection setup tab on Desktop App

Hi There!

When running the desktop version for the first time I’ve entered wrong configuration data. I then restarted and inserted local installation configuration data and it’s all fine, nevertheless on the desktop app now I see two tabs, one from my local running installation and another tab with the “cannot connect to Mattermost” message.

Is there a way to close this “confusing tab”?

Channels vs Teams in Mattermost + BigBlueButton

I am trying to check out the possibility of using Mattermost Team version + BigBlueButton to implement a collaboration function in my application. My application is a Middleman marketplace Freemium-model application that connects Users to other Users in different Companies, and would have 2 types of teams:

  1. Organization-level teams. There would be multiple organizations (typically, = Companies) within the Application Userbase, & each Organization may have 1 or more Users.
  2. Project-level teams. There would be multiple projects in the system, and each Project would include Users that belong to multiple Organization-level teams. Each Project-level team would have at least 2 Users, who may or may not belong to the same Organization.

The application has to support 1-1 & Group chats, 1-1 & Group Audio/ Video meetings, and File-sharing.

I understand from BigBlueButton documentation (https://github.com/blindsidenetworks/mattermost-plugin-bigbluebutton#usage) that BigBlueButton uses Channels to hold meetings.
Here, my first question is:

  1. Is there any approach by which we can use Teams to hold meetings in BigBlueButton?

Also, in the Mattermost context, I have a few questions:
2. Can Mattermost Channels be setup in the Mattermost Team version? The reason I am asking this is: Mattermost documentation states that a “Channel Admin” role is available only in Version E10 and above (https://docs.mattermost.com/help/getting-started/managing-members.html#channel-admin)
3. If Channels can be set up in the Team version, will the administration be handled by the Mattermost System Admin role ? If not, how would this be handled?
4. Does Mattermost support multi-level Channels ? Would this be supported in the Mattermost Team version ?
5. Would it be recommended to deploy a single Team across the entire User base in my application, and then define multiple channels for the various Organization-level groups and/or Project-level groups?
6. In the above scenario, can we have Users belonging to multiple channels at the same time? Is this doable in the Mattermost Team version ?

Hi, @RbDev.

Tried to search for an existing suggestion / feature request on the portal but could not find any. So, let us see if anyone can help us out on that.

Hello, @ricardobaeta.

I am wondering if this is really a specific issue to the client since you mentioned that you accidentally configured it wrongly when you ran it for the first time. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop client again?

Also, is the confusing tab appearing every time you start your desktop client?

Change Mattermost Build to custom build in Mattermost Desktop

$

Hi there,
I have pulled the mattermost-desktop from github. I have changed the variables inside package.json in the project to custom name ‘XYZ’ . The ‘XYZ’ is being reflected in the MAC and windows releases but not for the linux it is still showing “file=release/mattermost-desktop-4.1.2.tar.gz” during the make package command. How do i reflect the changes in the linux build.
Thanks in advance.
Full output during make package command for linux:
[no native production dependencies
• packaging platform=linux arch=x64 electron=2.0.2 appOutDir=release/linux-unpacked
• building target=tar.gz arch=x64 file=release/mattermost-desktop-4.1.2.tar.gz
• no native production dependencies
• packaging platform=linux arch=ia32 electron=2.0.2 appOutDir=release/linux-ia32-unpacked
• building target=tar.gz arch=ia32 file=release/mattermost-desktop-4.1.2-ia32.tar.gz
• building target=deb arch=x64 file=release/mattermost-desktop_4.1.2_amd64.deb]

How to encrypt postgrersql

Hello guys,

Currently our database as I’ve read in internet stores the direct messages somewhere locally with a plain text.

First question is : Where is that plain text stored?

Second is: How to encrypt this text so mattermost can still use the DB? Mind that we want to encrypt it from people who have access to the machine as root. So absolutely nobody can read it but mattermost

Built-in WebRTC video and audio calls removed in v5.6 in favor of open source plugins

Is it planned to extract actual WebRTC code from Mattermost to create a plugin? For small deployments, this solution is quite enough: a good trade-off between functionalities and deployment complexity.

For the moment, I was unable to locate such plugin.

Hey Amy.

Thanks for the feedback. We tripple-checked our users, and I got some help from one of our database-people to check the MatterMost user-table, and in the end we could certify that it really was just an AD issue that gave the error. So in the end we just ran --force, and all is well now.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for including that here, I missed to do that.

I confirm that I manually updated the locale column in the users table. The change persists after restarting the mattermost service.

@gbonnefille Thank you for the good question.

Is it planned to extract actual WebRTC code from Mattermost to create a plugin?

It’s something we’ve considered, but haven’t planned for yet. The Kopano Web Meetings plugin linked above mimics our original WebRTC implementation in terms of code and functionality.

If the community is open to extracting the code to create a plugin, let us know! We’d be happy to work with you to make that happen.

Hi @ricardobaeta,

It looks like you’re on Mac - you can use the shortcut “Command” + comma (,) to access the Settings page where you can delete servers.
