Appreciate your feedback. This was discussed on another thread. At a high level:
- Mattermost is a explicitly a self-hosted team communication solution providing an alternative to proprietary SaaS.
- What matters most for teams is not what matters most for a proprietary SaaS service, and accelerating the use of proprietary SaaS is not a priority of this project.
- Every responsible product occasionally requires high priority security releases and we believe it is critical that users know that they're running a Mattermost instance so that those updates can be applied.
That said, pull requests for adding customization (in a way that does not obscure the fact that Mattermost is being used) is highly encouraged.
For example, past community contributions adding the ability to change fonts and change code theme highlighting are greatly appreciated, and APRs for increasing customization are available..
If there's customization you want added that's not in the APR list, please consider adding a feature idea to be upvoted.
(And if you're out of votes, please convince someone on your team, or in the community that they should help add it or upvote it).
